About Me
I am a Wiccan/Witch/Druid who is a fledging gardener (learning as I go) and avid cook. I love reading just about anything I can get my hands on. During the day, I teach at a community college; I am learning, though, to balance my professional life with my personal life and to not let the first take over the second.
I am married with one cat (no children).
Music
I have fairly eclectic tastes here too: classic rock, classical music (Vivaldi is my favorite in this category), New Age . . .
Movies
I love the classics (such as Lawrence of Arabia), romantic comedies, the Monty Python movies, and any movie with Jackie Chan
TV
I really don't watch much television (and that was before the writers' strike),but watching Survivor is a guilty pleasure.
Books
My reading tastes run from Chaucer and Shakespeare to Isaac Asimov, Jean Auel, Morgan Llewellyn, Harry Turtledove, and Scott Cunningham.
Likes
I love animals, especially cats (a cat once saved my life, but that's another story, to be told soon); walking in the woods; cooking; camping on the beach, in the woods, or in the mountains.
Dislikes
pretentious, close-minded, and/or abusive people; those who blithely destroy the environment and then claim that it's "no big deal." Arrghh!
Hobbies
reading, yoga (just getting into it, but I like it so far), gardening, cooking, maintaining a freshwater aquarium
Vices
I have a sweet tooth that often gets the better of me: trying to watch it these days. Sometimes I take things a little too personally.
Virtues
I've been told that I'm patient and generous.
Heroes
anyone who has overcome tremendous odds to better himself or herself and to make a positive contribution to society

It's been forever since I've written anything, so here goes. I put a very difficult semester to bed: thank goodness. I think that this is the last time that I will teach an overload: it's just not worth the aggravation. Instead, I'm striving for balance. One thing that I have done on my vacation, which ends next week--I'm teaching two classes during the first summer session, in June--is to finish putting in a vegetable garden and to put in a good portion of an herb garden. I hope to have some decent pictures of both soon. Hopefully all is going well with everyone else. Bright blessings, by star and stone, Earthwoman
Welcome Spring!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything, so here goes. Blessed Ostara, everyone: I hope you were able to mark this event in the manner you desired. I worked half a day but then took the rest of the day off to celebrate. :-) The wildflowers, particularly Indian paintbrushes and bluebonnets (both lupines--the latter is the state flower of Texas) are beginning to bloom prolifically: such a beautiful sight, always one to lift the spirits. I'm planning to take some pictures soon and share them. Well, back to grading research papers for my lit classes (I chose mid-semester deadlines in order to avoid the "paper grading avalanche" toward the end of the semester). I hope everyone has a great day. Bright blessings, by star and stone, Earthwoman Happy Monday (no, I mean that sincerely)!

Merry Meet, everyone, and a happy Monday to all! I'm looking forward to a new week and a fresh start. I'm through grading major papers, at least for awhile, so I can lead a relatively normal existence for awhile. When I'm grading papers, it's as if I've entered an alternate universe--not always a benign one. This year's garden was officially started this weekend: yay! Well, I started the digging anyway, but it felt good to be outside, digging, and interacting with nature. This weekend, the birds were chirping, and yesterday, I saw the first monarch butterfly of the season. :-) The cat was walking the perimeter of the garden with a huge smile on her face--she loves garden time. Well, it's time to go get ready for work. I hope everyone has a good day and a good week. Bright blessings, by star and stone, Earthwoman Unexpected Surprise for Saturday
Sunday, February 17, 2008, 07:31 AM CST [General]
Merry Meet, everyone,
After 19 years, my water heater (for those from Texas, the "hot water heater") has decided to die. Fortunately, we were able to find another one yesterday afternoon; it'll be delivered sometime this morning. This early delivery date surprised me--I was thinking that we'd have to wait until Monday or Tuesday.
In the meantime, DH and I are boiling all our hot water. Last night, we boiled enough for a bath--for the two of us :-)
Otherwise, the weekend is going well. Yesterday I roasted a turkey (nearly 20 pounds), so I have dinner more or less figured out for the next two weeks. :-)
I have some OBOD work and an online class (Wicca: Second Degree--I'm taking the class, not teaching it) to work on, so I'd better sign off. Bright blessings to All!
